An uncommon Tsugaru’nuri 津軽塗り lacquered 4-tiered sage’jûbako 提げ重箱 (portable picnic set), also commonly referred to as a bentô box.
The portable frame is finished in lacquer imitating cherry blossom tree bark, housing three rectangular lidded containers, a triangular lidded container, and a set of five triangular plates, all adorned with distinct polychrome lacquer. The frame features apertures along each side, revealing glimpses of the interior. It opens from the middle, with each half carrying part of the interior on fitted shelves. A silver metal mokkô-shaped transport handle adorns the top, complemented by other finely crafted metal fittings.
Complete with its original wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box), bearing a maker's label and a dated inscription: ‘Taishô 15’ 大正拾五年, Anno 1926. From Ôsaka 大阪.

Height 28.3 cm, Length & Width 16.7 cm.
Considering its age, in a good condition with traces of wear consistent with age and use, including some minor lacquer loss along the rims/points. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
Hanami, as a major festival celebrating one of the four seasons, came to be associated with tiered food boxes called jûbako. Often made of lacquered wood, the tradition of stacking them was not only for functionality but also to symbolize the desire for good fortune to “accumulate.”
