This photo book features the American rock band The Runaways. This book, photographed by Kishin Shinoyama during the band's 1977 tour of Japan, was originally published by Shogakukan as part of their Bessatsu BIG GORO magazine. The "Gekisha" series was developed as a project to capture 1970s youth culture and stars through photographs that emphasized immediacy and physicality over staging, and was characterized by a sense of speed and closeness with the subjects. This method played a role in solidifying the passion of consumer culture, such as rock and idols, along with the atmosphere of the time. The Runaways were an unusual rock band formed entirely by female teenage members. The rebellious energy exuded by vocalist Cherry Currie and later soloist Joan Jett created a strong sense of incongruity in the male-dominated rock scene of the time. This book not only captures the excitement on stage, but also the tension and excitement during their visit to Japan, and through the format of "Gekisha" (photos taken with intense photography), it can be read as a document that conveys vivid moments of 1970s rock and teenage culture.
