Item Description:
This refined sake cup (sakazuki) is a distinguished work by the celebrated contemporary ceramic artist 高内秀剛 Takauchi Hidetake (1937-).
The piece exemplifies the artist's masterful command of traditional Japanese glazing techniques combined with bold, modern sensibility.
The cup features the hakeme (brush mark) technique with iron painting (tetsue), creating a dynamic interplay of textures and earth tones.
The sweeping brushstrokes reveal the natural beauty of the clay body beneath, while iron oxide decoration adds visual depth and rustic elegance.

After establishing his kiln, Hyakudo-gama (Hundred Children Kiln), in Mashiko in 1968, he has explored various traditional techniques including Oribe, Shino, yellow Seto, and inlay decoration, always maintaining his powerful and contemporary artistic vision.
