2020 Catena Alta "Historic Rows" Malbec - 门多萨 - 3 Bottles (0.75L)
Catena Alta wine is a blend of historic vineyard rows belonging to the Catena family's vineyards. The selection of these rows, like the union of sounds that compose a symphony, creates a wine of great elegance and aromatic intensity, expressing the land and the vines that the Catena Zapata family has cultivated for four generations. Catena Alta wines are typically consumed starting three years after harvest and continue to develop for the two decades that follow.
A symbol of Argentine excellence, celebrated for its complexity and aromatic depth with notes of dark berries and violet. Considered an emblem of Mendoza's terroir, it has been included in the guide "1001 Wines You Must Try Before You Die," underscoring its importance in the international wine landscape.
Grape: Malbec 100%
Vineyards: The grapes for Catena Alta Malbec production come from the following lots: lot 18 from the Angélica vineyard, lot 4 from the La Pirámide vineyard, lot 1 from the Nicasia vineyard, lot 9 from the Adrianna vineyard, and lot 6 from the Angélica Sur vineyard.
Winemaking: Each lot is harvested separately at different times to ensure moderate alcohol levels and optimal natural acidity. Whole clusters are manually poured into 225 to 500-liter barrels for fermentation; lots are vinified individually; fermentation and maceration for 15–22 days. Cold maceration. Indigenous yeasts. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrels; intensive battonage regimen to protect the wine and drastically reduce the amount of sulfur dioxide required.
Aging: 12–18 months in French oak barrels.
Storage Duration: Up to 20 years
Tasting Notes: This Malbec is known for its intense aromas of dark berries, such as blackberry and plum, enriched by floral notes of violet and hints of sweet spices, chocolate, and coffee. On the palate, Catena Alta Malbec presents full-bodied and rich character, with a velvety texture and well-integrated tannins that provide structure and balance. It has a long and persistent finish, with a touch of acidity that adds complexity and liveliness. It is an ideal wine for aging in the cellar.
