A fine metal dish with upright rim, measuring circa 7,5cm in diameter and weighing 101g, engraved with the image of the archangel Michael presenting a sword to Mercurius, a Christian soldier in the army of emperor Decius, before he rode out to defeat the barbarians who attacked Rome in 249 AD. Mercurius refused to worship the Roman gods with incense after the victorious battle and for this he was martyred in 250 AD at the age of 25. He is remembered as Abu Sayfain, the father of two swords as he fought not only with his battle sword but also the sword of divinity given to him by the angel Michael. It is difficult to determine the age of this piece, i have tentatively estimated it as 19th century but it could be much older. Condition: Very good, no damages or repairs. Minor wear commensurate with age. This lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered and insured mail.
