Philosophical calligraphy work: 壺中日月長Time stretches long within a pot.
"Time stretches long within a pot" is a proverb rich in Zen and Taoist flavor, originating from the legend of the immortal Hu Gong. It signifies a secluded paradise within a pot (wine pot, tea pot, or a hermit's small world), where time seems to pass slowly. It symbolizes a state of mind free from worldly constraints, pursuing a leisurely and tranquil life, and is commonly used to describe drinking wine, appreciating tea, or a reclusive lifestyle.
Origin of the allusion: It originates from a story in the *Book of the Later Han Dynasty*, specifically the biography of Fei Changfang. Legend has it that an old man sold medicine in the market, treating people's ailments. After closing up shop, he would jump into a wine pot hanging from the roof beam to rest, earning him the nickname "Master Pot." Within the pot, a world of its own, bathed in the bright light of the sun and moon, was created.
Literal and deeper meanings: The "pot" symbolizes a spiritual space independent of the real world (such as a fairyland, a wine pot, or a teapot). "The sun and moon are long" signifies that time slows down and lengthens within this space, expressing a yearning for a life detached from worldly affairs and leisurely enjoyment.
