Art Deco Doyen Vase in Light Blue Glass with Green “Décor de Cristal” – Flora Collection
A striking and highly unusual example of Belgian Art Deco glass, this rare 1930s vase by Doyen features a distinctive rounded silhouette set on a short foot. The entire vase is made from light blue glass, while the lower half is richly decorated with applied green granular texture — the characteristic “décor de cristal” technique described and documented in the reference book Verre et Noir, dedicated to the artistic production of the Doyen glassworks in Havré-Ville (Mons).
Fine delicate gold lines encircle the upper section, adding contrast and elegance. The rim is smooth and rounded, emphasizing the purity of the form and the refined balance typical of Art Deco design.
This piece belongs to the Flora collection and represents a particularly rare and uncommon shape, making it especially appealing to collectors of Belgian Art Deco glass.

An exceptional and scarce model — a true collector’s find and a distinctive statement piece.
In the early 20th century, Jean-Baptiste Doyen and his son Gaston established a glass factory in Havré-Ville, near Mons, Belgium. Originally named Verreries Gobeleteries d’Havré-Ville, the company specialized in producing high-quality blown glassware, including tableware, lighting, and decorative pieces. Doyen’s work became particularly renowned for its Art Deco designs, featuring elegant shapes, refined engravings, and meticulous craftsmanship. A notable example is a set of mouth-blown glasses adorned with finely scoured olive shapes and intricate fan patterns, showcasing the exquisite attention to detail of the era.
Among Doyen’s most celebrated creations is the “Floralies” series, which embodies the refined elegance of Art Deco design. Produced in the early 20th century, these vases are distinguished by their bold geometric forms, intricate detailing, and rich, vibrant colors. One of the most remarkable models, no. 150, crafted in the 1930s, features striking vertical stripes and a distinctive corrugated collar, often produced in warm brown glass. Many pieces from the series still bear the “Floralies” label, preserving their legacy and making them easily recognizable among collectors.
Today, Doyen’s glassware remains highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of Belgian Art Deco pieces. Their timeless elegance and historical significance continue to make them prized additions to vintage collections, standing as a testament to Belgium’s rich glassmaking tradition and artistic heritage.
