This exquisite Hohovi twin figure from Togo showcases a traditional form complemented by a remarkable natural wood patination. As you can see there is coloration on the hair and eyes. While the left hand is absent, this is not a recent alteration. Historically, the Ewe people intentionally removed a hand or leg from such figures to disrupt their spiritual purpose and to release their inherent power.
