Tamura Koichi 1918 Born in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture 1941 Graduated from the Department of Design, Crafts, Tokyo School of Fine Arts 1948 Participated in the founding of Akami ware 1950 Recommended by Shoji Hamada, he became a technician at the Tochigi Prefecture Ceramics Guidance Center in Mashiko 1957 Received the Japan Ceramic Society Award 1960 Received the Encouragement Award at the 7th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition 1961 Received the Tomimoto Award at the 16th Shinsho-kai Exhibition Purchased by the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, among others. 1967 Received the Grand Prix Gold Prize at the Istanbul International Ceramics Exhibition in Turkey. 1970 Received the Tochigi Prefecture Cultural Merit Award. 1975 Received the Gold Prize of the Japan Ceramic Association. 1977 Appointed professor at Tokyo University of the Arts. 1983 Received the Medal with Purple Ribbon. 1986 Recognized as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for his iron-painted pottery. 1987 Passed away Including original signed and sealed tomobako.
