exceptional pair of antique French wall sconces, hand forged in solid wrought iron and dating from the late 19th century.

These sconces come from a French château, where they were originally made as candle holders and later electrified.

Every element shows traditional blacksmith craftsmanship: hand-hammered iron, forge-collared joints, tapered feet, and individually formed drip pans. No casting, no factory work — each piece was forged by hand.

Their weight, proportions, and construction are typical of bespoke ironwork made for grand country houses and châteaux, rather than later decorative reproductions.

Over time they have developed a deep, authentic patina that only centuries of age can create.

Later electrification was added in the 20th century, and they retain candle-style sleeves for a period-correct appearance.

Wiring is old and should be checked or replaced by a qualified electrician before installation.
