Although tastings from earlier years gave this 2001 around 89 points from Falstaff — noting a still-evolving wine with roses, leather and dark cherry, firm tannins and significant storage potential — it has had time in bottle to further soften and develop tertiary complexity. In the glass it typically shows a rich garnet hue with evolved brick tones, while the bouquet can present dried fruit, tar, underbrush, spice and earth — classic notes of aged Barolo. As it evolves, savoury nuances of truffle, tobacco and forest floor may emerge, complementing lingering fruit. The palate is structured yet balanced, with integrated acidity and a persistent finish.
