Oumé lies within the forested zone of central-western Côte d’Ivoire, an area historically inhabited by Guro (also called Kweni) communities. The region sits between Baule territories to the east and Bete and We areas to the west, creating a dynamic cultural corridor marked by trade, migration, and artistic exchange. Unlike the centralized Akan-derived Baule polities, Guro social organization historically centered on village-based leadership and powerful ritual associations.
