主题收藏系列 - 江户时期 铁质剑护手 – 雪花镂空纹样 – 圆形 – 7.13 厘米

A powerful and refined iron tsuba (Japanese sword guard) in classic maru-gata (round form) with elegant yukiwa sukashi (snowflake openwork) design. Unsigned (mumei). Based on workmanship, forging quality, rim structure (kaku-mimi ko-niku), and aesthetic balance, this piece dates to the Edo period (circa 1700–1850). Design & Symbolism The openwork motif represents Yukiwa (snow crystal roundels) — a traditional auspicious pattern in Japanese art. Symbolism includes: Purity Renewal Fertility Seasonal harmony Because melting snow nourishes the earth, the motif was highly favored by the samurai class as a symbol of prosperity and cyclical regeneration. The composition is bold yet restrained — heavy iron plate contrasted with refined negative space. The asymmetrical snow-wheel openings create dynamic movement across the surface. Construction Iron plate construction Openwork (sukashi) carving Single hitsu-ana Kaku-mimi ko-niku rim Forged plate producing a clear, high metallic tone when lightly tapped The ringing tone indicates well-forged dense iron. This is a substantial guard suitable for katana mounting. Condition Honest age-related patina Surface oxidation consistent with Edo-period iron No structural cracks Openwork edges show natural wear Overall condition is good for its age Color tone may appear slightly different depending on lighting and display device. Please review all photographs carefully. Dimensions Height: approx. 7.13 cm Width: approx. 7.13 cm Thickness: approx. 5.3 mm Weight: approx. 112.2 g Well-balanced and solid presence in hand. Period Edo Period (1603–1868) Likely 18th–early 19th century production. Collector Appeal Large, well-forged sukashi tsuba with: Strong silhouette Classical samurai symbolism Honest patina Good weight Clean openwork design A compelling piece for: Japanese sword fittings collectors Edo metalwork enthusiasts Sukashi-focused collections Samurai art displays
