Daum Nancy - 台灯 - 法国新艺术风格 - 大理石纹玻璃郁金香灯罩,署名达姆(洛林十字) - 玻璃, 黄铜色
Very Elegant French Art Nouveau table lamp combining a sculptural bronze base with a richly colored marbled (“verre marbré”) glass tulip shade.
This type of nature-inspired lighting is a hallmark of the Belle Époque: the shade is treated like a flower in bloom, designed to turn light into atmosphere rather than harsh illumination.
The lamp is closely connected to the artistic climate of Nancy around 1900, one of the great centers of French Art Nouveau.
The École de Nancy (officially created in 1901) aimed to promote the decorative and industrial arts of Lorraine, with floral forms and craftsmanship suited to modern interiors.
Daum’s glassworks in Nancy were a key presence in this movement and the region’s decorative arts identity.
The tulip shade is signed “Daum Nancy” and bears the Cross of Lorraine (see close-up photo). This “Daum + Cross of Lorraine / Nancy” signature format is documented on museum-held Daum pieces, including at the Musée d’Orsay.
It also appears consistently on major auction catalogues for Daum lighting, including Art Nouveau table lamps described as signed “Daum Nancy” with the Cross of Lorraine, circa 1900.
Around 1900, Art Nouveau designers deliberately chose botanical silhouettes—tulips, lilies, orchids—because they expressed the movement’s signature idea: bringing nature into the home through line, light, and form. In the Nancy tradition, these floral shades were often paired with flowing metalwork (the famous “whiplash” curve), turning everyday lighting into a decorative sculpture.
Condition:
Good vintage condition consistent with age and use. The shade is clearly signed and the lamp presents beautifully both lit and unlit (see photos). The base shows normal wear; later screws under the base as noted above.
