This lot consists of a set of two ceramic vases created by the same Japanese studio potter, both accompanied by their original signed wooden storage boxes (tomobako). Each vase features natural variations in glaze produced during the firing process, displaying subtle tonal transitions ranging from earthy brown to deep green across the surface. One vase presents a softly cylindrical form with an organic texture reminiscent of weathered tree bark, while the other showcases a striking contrast in coloration created by the natural flow of glaze during firing. The crackle-like patterns visible on the surface are an intentional decorative effect known as kannyu (crackle glaze), created during the production process, and should not be considered as damage or defects. These natural irregularities and kiln effects (yohen) are characteristic elements of traditional Japanese ceramic aesthetics and reflect the influence of the Mingei (folk craft) philosophy. Both pieces are glazed on the interior, making them suitable for practical use as ikebana flower vases, while also functioning as sculptural decorative objects. The artist’s seal is present on the base of each piece. ⸻ Dimensions (approx.) Vase 1: • Height: approx. 22 cm • Mouth diameter: approx. 6.5 cm • Base diameter: approx. 8 cm Vase 2: • Height: approx. 23 cm • Mouth diameter: approx. 6.5 cm • Base diameter: approx. 8 cm Please allow for slight measurement variations. ⸻ Condition Minor variations in glaze tone, firing marks, and slight surface irregularities due to age and handcrafted production are present, all of which are typical characteristics of studio pottery. No visible cracks or structural damage were observed. Please refer to the photographs for detailed condition.
