This lot consists of five miniature sōsaku kokeshi (creative kokeshi dolls), handcrafted and hand-painted in Japan. Unlike traditional regional kokeshi, sōsaku kokeshi emerged during the early Shōwa period (Shōwa era, 1926–1989) as an artistic movement that allowed individual craftsmen to express personal creativity beyond strict regional styles. These examples are likely from the mid to late Shōwa period (Shōwa era, circa 1960s–1980s). Each doll has its own distinctive character and design. One doll features a charming black bob hairstyle and delicate floral painting with white blossoms on the front, evoking a gentle seasonal atmosphere. Another small figure is shaped in a soft teardrop form, wearing a green hood-like motif that gives it a modern, minimalist expression. A third doll presents a serene face with softly closed eyes and autumn leaves painted across the body, conveying a peaceful seasonal mood. The remaining two dolls are slightly larger. One has a black kimono decorated with bold red and yellow floral motifs, creating strong contrast and visual impact. The other features a uniquely carved head with visible natural wood grain patterns and movable wooden arms, giving it a sculptural and contemporary artistic appearance. Together, these five dolls represent the warmth and individuality of post-war Japanese folk art.
