Description

An exceptional mouth-blown and hand-cut crystal Medicis-form vase, Versailles model, adorned with Saint-Louis’s prestigious Thistle Gold decoration. The piece is brand new and unused, presented in its original navy blue Saint-Louis gift box.

The wide, flared body features broad vertical flat ribs resting on a bulbous collar richly decorated with diamond-point cold-cut facets, highlighted with 24-carat gold lines. The square base is cut in a radiating star pattern with gilded beveled edges. The wide, flat upper rim is adorned with a magnificent frieze engraved in fine 24-carat gold, reproducing the iconic Art Nouveau floral motif of the Thistle service (stylized thistle), originally created for the Nancy Exhibition of 1908–1909. The outer edge of the rim is fully gilded, lending the piece an exceptionally opulent appearance.

The base bears the acid-etched signature “St Louis” (visible in image 4).
The Versailles model dates to 1950. Its creation requires seven to eight weeks of skilled craftsmanship, alternating between glassblowers and cutters — a rare testament to the mastery of the artisans at the Manufacture.
