Polished Petrified Wood Slab – Araucarioxylon (Araucarian fossil wood) – Studenec locality Beautiful polished cross-section of European petrified wood, most likely belonging to an Araucarian-type conifer (Araucarioxylon / Araucariaceae), a group of ancient trees widespread during the Triassic period. The specimen reveals a striking internal structure, with clearly visible growth rings and radial mineral patterns radiating from the center of the trunk. The fossilization process has replaced the original organic material with silica and other minerals, preserving the microscopic structure of the wood while creating a rich palette of natural colors ranging from dark brown and reddish tones to lighter mineral veins. The polished surface enhances the intricate fossil textures, while the natural outer edges still retain the original wood structure, offering an appealing contrast between the raw fossil exterior and the polished interior cross-section. Collected in the Studenec area (Czech Republic), from an old private collection labelled 1996. The back of the specimen still preserves the original handwritten collection labels referencing the locality. Both scientifically interesting and visually impressive, this piece works equally well as a collector’s fossil specimen or a natural display object. It is presented on a clear acrylic stand, allowing stable and elegant display.
