Morel de Vinde [Charles-Gilbert Terrey] - Zélomir - 1801
This first edition exemplifies early 19th century "littérature frénétique" with Gothic and sentimental elements. With six plates in a double state (12 plates) by François Godefroy after Louis-Joseph Lefèvre, capturing dramatic scenes in Troubadour style.
Medieval romance novella with charming illustrations, the story of Zélomir, a noble exile, navigating passion, betrayal, and redemption.
Attractive full leather unsigned leather binding with gilt edges and dentelles inside. Some rubbing to the spine edges, but otherwise a beautiful copy. The front hinge is quite delicate and in danger of detaching but is still holding.
309 pages. 12.5 x 8 cm
Reference: Cohen-de Ricci, col. 739 ("jolie figures")
