The whisky that embodies the epitome of Japanese craftsmanship. A 17-year-old that is the heart of the Hibiki brand. Elegant, it slowly reveals a clear yet complex balance. Released in 1989, it is a blend of malt and grain whiskies that have matured for 17 years or more. The malts matured in Mizunara casks in Yamazaki. Thirty malt whiskies were selected to create a world of exquisite flavors with a hidden and subtle complexity. Characterized by wood notes reminiscent of toffee and sweet fruit, with a richness of flavor due to the whiskies' extended maturation. It possesses a rich and satisfying finish.

There is a perception that Japanese whisky is merely reengineered Scotch, but the truth is that Japanese whisky distillers are now forging their own path. Hibiki’s 17-Year is a terrific example: Blended from Suntory’s Yamazaki and Hakashu distilleries’ stocks, along with grain distillate from its Chita distillery, and aged in a combination of American and Japanese oak barrels as well as Sherry butts, it’s remarkably elegant. Don’t let the whisky’spale color trick you—it packs a ton of flavor, from pear and apple to mint and caramelized bananas, with an herbal pine-rosemary edge.
