Original limited edition relief porcelain plate issued in an edition of 3000 pieces. This example is numbered 2276/3000. The plate features a striking sculptural relief with organic, crater-like forms, characteristic of Wirkkala’s modernist and experimental design language inspired by nature and spatial structures. A highly collectible design object from Rosenthal’s iconic annual series. SOME GENERAL INFORMATIONS: Rosenthal, founded in 1879 in Selb (Germany), is known for high-quality porcelain and long standing collaborations with leading designers of the 20th century — theirs is a legacy of merging art and industrial design in timeless creations. Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was one of the most influential Finnish designers of the 20th century. Known for his organic modernist forms and masterful use of materials, he worked extensively with glass, porcelain and wood. His designs for Rosenthal, developed from the 1950s onward, combine Scandinavian minimalism with sculptural elegance and are highly regarded by collectors.
