Carboniferous Fern Fossil Plate – Saarbrücken Basin, Germany – 302–309 Million Years – Exceptional Preservation
An authentic and highly attractive Carboniferous plant fossil plate from the historic Saarbrücken Basin, Germany – one of Europe’s classic Upper Carboniferous localities.
Geological age: Upper Carboniferous (Pennsylvanian), approximately 302–309 million years.
The specimen displays multiple finely preserved fern fronds with clearly defined pinnules and excellent natural contrast against the matrix. The delicate botanical structures are visible across a large portion of the plate, creating both scientific interest and strong visual appeal.
Fossils from the Saarbrücken coal forest deposits originate from ancient swamp ecosystems that later formed significant European coal seams – representing an important chapter in Earth’s paleo-botanical history.
The plate has a naturally balanced composition, making it suitable as a collector’s specimen as well as an impressive display piece.
Dimensions: 21 × 10 × 3 cm
Weight: 1040 g
Condition: completely natural, unrestored and free from artificial enhancement. Minor natural edge irregularities consistent with fossil plates of this geological age.
A fine and honest Carboniferous specimen from a classic German locality – increasingly difficult to find in balanced display quality.
