A fantastic, large suiseki 水石 (scholar’s stone) naturally adorned with a striking pattern resembling chrysanthemum flowers 菊 (kiku) in shades of light purple, greyish white, and green. The body of the stone is anthracite in colour with a soft greyish white matrix. This rare type of suiseki is referred to as kikumonseki 菊紋石, meaning “chrysanthemum crest stone”. The surface is mostly smooth, interspersed with rough-textured patches and natural alcoves and creases, enhancing its organic character. The stone rests on a custom-made black lacquered wooden base 台座 (daiza), carefully carved to follow its unique contours.
