卖家的描述

• Katzenau Internment Camp Token – 2 Heller, 1916 (Zinc) – Very Rare
• Original internment camp token issued in 1916 for use at the Katzenau Internment Camp, Austro-Hungarian Empire. Denomination 2 Heller, struck in zinc.
• Historical Context:
During World War I, the Katzenau Internment Camp (near Linz, present-day Austria) was established to hold civilians classified as “enemy aliens,” including people from Italy, Romania, and other opposing states. To control internal trade and prevent the circulation of official currency, the camp introduced its own token money, used by internees to obtain basic goods.
• Rarity:
Produced in very limited quantities solely for internal camp circulation
Most examples were lost, destroyed, or melted after the war
Katzenau camp tokens are seldom offered on the collector market
Zinc issues are particularly scarce due to corrosion and poor long-term survival
Because of these factors, original Katzenau tokens are considered highly collectible and rare, especially with clear details.
• Material:
Metal: Zinc
• The choice of zinc reflects wartime metal shortages and emergency production methods typical of WWI camp and necessity coinage.
• Condition:
The condition is exactly as shown in the photographs. Please examine all images carefully, as they are an integral part of the description.
• Collecting Interest:
This piece represents an important and tangible artifact of World War I civilian internment history. Highly desirable for collections specializing in:
WWI memorabilia
Internment and POW camp items
Emergency and necessity money
Austro-Hungarian numismatics
A historically significant and scarce token from a lesser-known but important chapter of World War I.
