晚期罗马时期至早期撒克逊时期 黄铜色 公元3世纪至6世纪左右的青铜戒指,饰有“邪眼”纹样

Rare Late Roman to Early Saxon Bronze Ring with Elaborate Scalloped ‘Evil Eye’ Motif Circa 3rd–6th Century AD A rare and visually striking Late Roman to Early Saxon bronze ring, dating to approximately the 3rd–6th century AD, distinguished by its unusually elaborate scalloped bezel and finely executed concentric circle (“evil eye”) decoration. Unlike the more common flat oval or circular examples, this ring features a lobed, scalloped bezel, giving it a highly decorative, almost floral outline. The bezel is engraved with a central circle surrounded by multiple smaller concentric circles arranged with deliberate symmetry. This motif is widely interpreted as apotropaic, intended to ward off harm or misfortune, and is well documented across the Late Roman and Migration Period worlds. The ring is cast in bronze and retains a thick, stable green archaeological patina, consistent with long burial and genuine antiquity. The hoop is intact and robust, tapering smoothly into the shoulders. The engraved decoration remains crisp and clearly legible, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and scholarly interest. Examples with this more complex, scalloped bezel form are significantly scarcer than standard concentric-circle rings, making this a particularly desirable piece for collectors of Late Roman, Sub-Roman, and Early Saxon jewellery. Details: Object: Ring (apotropaic / possibly signet) Culture: Late Roman to Early Saxon (Migration Period) Date: Circa 3rd–6th Century AD Material: Bronze Decoration: Concentric circles (“evil eye”) motif Bezel: Rare scalloped / lobed form Ring size: approx. UK Q / EU 57–58 Condition: Very good archaeological condition; stable patina; wear consistent with age A rare and elegant transitional-period ring, combining symbolic meaning with an unusually refined and decorative form. ***** Dear bidders, please note that we do not ship to the UK or to countries outside the European Union. If you are located outside the EU and win this lot, the sale will unfortunately have to be cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Enjoy the bidding.
