R. : Apollo, half-naked, seated on the left, holding a laurel branch in his right hand, his left arm resting on his lyre placed on the seat. Gordian III (225–244) was Roman emperor from 238 to 244, brought to power at a very young age during a period of great crisis. Under his reign, the Empire was largely governed by advisors, notably the Praetorian Prefect Timesitheus. Sous son règne, l’Empire est dirigé en grande partie par des conseillers, notamment le préfet du prétoire Timesithée. Il meurt lors d’une campagne contre les Perses sassanides, dans des circonstances restées incertaines.
