古埃及 Faience 双鸵鸟羽毛护符。高3,5 cm。公元前664–332年

Double ostrich feathers amulet Ancient Egypt, Late Period, 664 - 332 BC Stone 3,5 cm height. Provenance: Private collection, Germany, 1960. Condition: Good, see photos. Ancient Egyptian amulets in the form of double ostrich feathers were powerful symbols of truth, balance, and divine authority. The ostrich feather was closely associated with the goddess Ma'at, who embodied truth, justice, and cosmic order. In Egyptian belief, the feather of Ma’at was used in the judgment of the dead, where the heart of the deceased was weighed against it to determine moral worthiness in the afterlife. The double-feather motif could also be linked to solar and royal symbolism. Two tall ostrich plumes often appeared in the headdresses of important deities such as Amun, where they represented divine power and universal sovereignty. As amulets, these paired feathers conveyed protection, legitimacy, and spiritual equilibrium. Crafted in faience, gold, or semi-precious stones, double-feather amulets were usually small and pierced for suspension, allowing them to be worn on necklaces or incorporated into funerary jewelry. The bright blue or green glaze of faience enhanced their associations with renewal and life. By wearing a double ostrich feather amulet, individuals symbolically aligned themselves with cosmic harmony and divine justice. These objects served not only as decorative ornaments but also as potent spiritual devices, expressing the wearer’s desire for balance, protection, and eternal order in both life and the afterlife.
