A. Giannelli – Signed and dated sculpture (1977)
Elegant figurative sculpture by Italian artist A. Giannelli, signed and dated 1977 next to the artist’s name.
The sculpture represents a putto (cherub) figure, a classical motif widely used in Italian decorative arts since the Renaissance. Such figures symbolize innocence and playful movement and were a popular theme in decorative sculpture during the 20th century.
This work belongs to a group of baroque-inspired putto sculptures produced by Giannelli during the 1970s, combining classical iconography with modern decorative design.
The sculpture bears official Italian silver-plated hallmarks, including:
• 925 sterling laminated silver-plated mark (35/40g)
• Italian hallmark: Star 371 FI
The hallmark consisting of a star, registration number (371) and the province mark FI identifies a registered Florentine silversmith, following the Italian hallmarking system introduced in 1968.
The sculpture is made using the Italian technique of 925 silver-plating over a composite core, a method commonly used in high-quality decorative sculptures of the 1970s.
The figure is mounted on an elegant wooden base, which complements the sculpture and provides stability.
