Item Description壹谷旭 Akira Ichiya(1937-2003)This exceptional glass bowl was created by Akira Ichiya, one of Japan's most celebrated and pioneering studio glass artists of the modern era. The piece showcases Ichiya's signature technique known as "Yokisai" (窯稀彩) — a groundbreaking kiln-transformation method in which silver foil is fused into the glass surface and transformed into radiant gold through heat. The result is a breathtakingly organic pattern of golden crackling and veining that dances across the clear glass body, evoking the shimmering expanse of sunlit water. The bowl is titled "Kō" (洸) — a single character meaning "the brilliant, wide-spreading radiance of water" — a name that perfectly captures the luminous, ever-shifting golden surface of this work. The form is elegantly shaped with a subtly flared rim, a refined design choice that enhances both the feel on the lips and the visual flow of the piece. The interior is richly adorned with Ichiya's signature Yokisai gold patterns, and the base bears the artist's engraved signature. The wooden storage box (tomobako) is signed and sealed with the artist's red seal, authenticating the work.Ichiya was born in Obanazawa City, Yamagata Prefecture in 1937, and developed his Yokisai glass art into an internationally recognized form. His works are held in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass in New York and the Costa Rica Museum of Fine Arts, and were featured in a dedicated Fuji Television arts program. This bowl represents a rare opportunity to acquire a fine example of his mature work, presented in excellent condition with its original tomobako. My MessageThank you so much for looking at my item.
