Excellent and absolutely stunning antique hand fan, ca 1875. Monture of mother of pearl with a carved monture with a finesse that is rarely seen. Each stick is carved with flowers, rocailles and scrolls, forming an intricate pattern of framed arrangements in open worked design, giving it an airy appearance. This mood of light and airy is enhanced by the lace leaf. This leaf is made of silk netting with hand made applied lace. In the time that hand fans were status symbols, this was the showstopper. Spines of finely pierced bone. Comes in the original pale blue silk covered box. Note: one stick has a repair
