INTRODUCTION
An elegant Oromo horn spoon, carved from a single whole horn and finely engraved, combining everyday function with sculptural clarity.
CONTEXT / FUNCTION
Among Oromo communities of Ethiopia, horn spoons are traditionally associated with meals and are notably documented for eating porridge, including dishes such as Marqaa. This type of utensil belongs to the refined sphere of domestic objects in which practicality and elegance are closely linked.
FORM AND DECORATION
Carved from an entire horn, the spoon follows the material’s natural curve, creating a long, dynamic silhouette. The handle is enhanced with engraved geometric ring motifs that add rhythm and texture without disturbing the purity of the form. The bowl is elongated, shallow and well balanced, with a convincing functional elegance.
SURFACE AND PATINA
The surface has developed a warm honey patina, especially attractive along the bowl and on the engraved sections of the handle. Minor handling marks and wear are consistent with age and use.
CONDITION
Very good overall condition.
Patina and surface wear consistent with age and use.
No major damage observed.
