大号萩烧花瓶——由被指定为非物质文化遗产的分裂白釉所呈现的震撼之美 - 石器 - 大和保男 Yamato Yasuo (1933-) - 日本 - 1900–2000

Item Description: 大和保男 Yamato Yasuo (1933-) Hagi White Glaze Divided-Glaze Large Flower Vase (萩白釉掛分文大花瓶) With original wooden box (共箱) This impressive large-scale Hagi ware flower vase was created by Yamato Yasuo, one of the foremost living masters of Hagi ceramics and a designated holder of Yamaguchi Prefecture's Intangible Cultural Property. The piece features a striking divided glaze (掛分文) composition in characteristic Hagi white glaze — a soft, milky, layered finish for which Hagi ware has been celebrated for over four centuries. The generous form of this vase — standing 36 cm tall with a commanding presence — showcases Yamato's mastery of large-scale ceramic composition. The interaction of the divided white glazes creates a subtle gradation of tone across the surface, evoking the mist-softened landscapes of the Yamaguchi region where this tradition originates. The piece comes with its original wooden storage box (共箱), confirming its authenticity. A distinguished example of one of Japan's most beloved ceramic traditions, crafted by an award-winning master whose works are held in major museum collections worldwide. Size Height: 36 cm Width: 36 cm Depth: 36 cm Weight: 8,100 g Condition The piece shows some age-related surface wear and minor scuffs consistent with its history; no major structural damage noted. Buyers are advised to refer to the provided photographs for full condition details. Artist Profile 大和保男 Yamato Yasuo (1933-) was born in Yamaguchi City as the second son of Yamato Harunobu Shoroku, an eleventh-generation master of the Yamato kiln. He began assisting in the kiln as a young child during wartime and received formal instruction from his father during his middle school years. He gained recognition at major national exhibitions from the late 1950s, earning prizes at the Nitten exhibition and other prestigious competitions. He became a full member of the Japan Kogei Association in 1979 and has served as its Yamaguchi branch director. In 1988 he was designated a holder of Yamaguchi Prefecture's Intangible Cultural Property for Hagi ware. His works have been acquired by major art institutions, and he received the Chugoku Cultural Prize in 1992 and the Order of the Rising Sun in 2007. Yamato is particularly known for developing the innovative "Enpaku" technique — firing with a thin coating of highly concentrated saltwater to create vivid red and flame-like colorations on the ceramic surface — as well as large-scale ceramic wall installations for public buildings. He has been active in promoting Hagi ware internationally and continues to create works that bridge traditional technique with bold contemporary vision. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone.
