Carved and polychromed wooden figure of a kneeling angel, Spain (or Southern Europe), 16th century. The angel is depicted kneeling with outstretched arms, originally conceived as part of a larger devotional ensemble. The figure displays a lively and expressive pose, with softly modelled features and flowing garments. The original polychromy is well preserved, with extensive gilding and estofado decoration, characteristic of Southern European sculpture of the period. Carved in wood with original polychromy. Condition: overaal in good condition for its age, polychromy in worn condition, right foot slightly damaged. Height: ca. 55 cm.
