About the Artist: Masao Ido (1945–2016)
Masao Ido was a leading figure in contemporary Japanese woodblock printing.
Born in North East China and later moving to Kyoto, he taught himself the intricate techniques of woodblock printing, eventually becoming a master of the "Sōsaku-hanga" (creative prints) movement.
His works are characterized by their unique use of color and light, often referred to as "Ido Green" or "Ido Blue." He had a remarkable ability to capture the changing seasons of Japan, particularly the soul of Kyoto.
His art is highly regarded globally and is included in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
