Well preserved claw of the burrowing ghost shrimp Protocallianassa faujasi ( Desmarest, 1822) - male. Burrowing into soft sediment and building burrows there, these animals have a rather fragile shell, which is why it is rarely preserved. Only the claws of the first peripods were more heavily calcified, which is why they often occur as fossils.
