Reverse: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ; upright cornucopia; two monograms below. Struck at Antioch with vertical legends flanking the type. HGC 9, 806. Demetrios I, long a hostage in Rome, returned to Syria in 162 BC, overthrew the regency of Lysias and Antiochos V, and consolidated power across the Seleucid realm. He received the epithet Soter ("Savior") after defeating the usurper Timarchos in Babylonia. The Antioch tetradrachms with the cornucopia emphasize royal prosperity and benefaction during his effort to restore central authority and finance campaigns; his rule ended in 150 BC in conflict with the pretender Alexander Balas
