Item Description: This is a Japanese hexagonal hanging lantern (tsuri-dōrō / 吊灯篭) crafted from iron with a bronze-coloured finish, combining robust weight with a quietly refined aesthetic. The lantern takes the form of a traditional hexagonal pavilion-roof (an-gata), with a dignified and well-proportioned canopy that evokes the architectural grace of shrine and temple eaves. The fire chamber (hibukuro) features six panels decorated with geometric diamond (hishi) openwork patterns, creating an interplay of light and shadow when illuminated. At the base of the fire chamber, each of the six corners extends outward in a gently upturned foot, lending the piece a sense of elegance and visual lift. This lantern was designed and manufactured for electric lighting rather than open flame: the interior roof space contains a wiring cavity intended to house a light bulb and electrical fittings. Wiring is not included. The piece functions beautifully both as a suspended lantern and as a standalone decorative object.
