布袋和尚聚贤图 - 未署名,巨幅卷轴 - 真丝 - Unknown - 日本 - Edo Period (1600-1868)

*From the store Among the Seven Lucky Gods, four are depicted: Hotei, Benzaiten, Bishamonten, and Fukurokuju. In addition, among the motifs of pine, bamboo, plum, crane, and turtle, there is a pine tree in the upper left in the distance, a plum tree in the center, and Chinese children raising a turtle in the lower left. In other words, this is presumed to be one of a pair of hanging scrolls that were originally a set of two. The other scroll likely depicted the remaining Seven Lucky Gods—Ebisu, Daikokuten, and Jurōjin—along with the crane and bamboo from the pine–bamboo–plum–crane–turtle motif. For some reason, only one scroll remains, but it is still a highly impressive work in both imagery and size. There is no artist’s signature or seal. The period is estimated to be from the late Edo period to the early Meiji era. The mounting and storage box are not original to the time of creation and are thought to have been remade several decades later.
