The Hovingham Master (XVII), 归因于 - The Young Bacchus Playing
We thank René Millet for suggesting the attribution of the present painting to the Hovingham Master. We also thank Vilmos Tátrai of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest for noting how "the complexity and refinement of the composition and the quality of the execution of this Bacchic scene" are almost up to Nicolas Poussin's himself.
The oeuvre of this anonymous hand, active in Paris after 1650, was originally grouped together by Anthony Blunt in 1961 (see Literature) recognizing a cohesion between a number of works erroneously attributed to Nicolas Poussin. Blunt named the artist after two works at Hovingham Hall, Yorkshire in the collection of Sir William Worsley.
