Megaron floor lamp, designed by Gianfranco Frattini (1926–2004) and manufactured by Artemide S.p.A., Milan, Italy. Original design from 1979. Gianfranco Frattini was one of Italy's most prolific and influential post-war designers. A graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, he was a founding member of the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI) and worked across furniture, lighting, and interior design. His collaborations with Artemide, Cassina, and other leading Italian manufacturers produced numerous design icons, including the Megaron lamp — one of the most recognisable floor lamps of the late 20th century. The Megaron is a masterclass in reductive design: a single upward-tapering cylindrical column in white lacquered steel, split by a vertical black accent line, mounted on a weighted black disc base. The lamp functions as an uplighter, casting a warm, diffused glow from its open top via a halogen R7s linear bulb (max 500W). The integrated slide dimmer with red indicator light allows precise control of light intensity. The Megaron remains in continuous production by Artemide — now available as an LED version (Megaron Terra LED) at a retail price of approximately €1,400 — which speaks to the enduring relevance of Frattini's 1979 design. This is an original vintage production piece with the Artemide factory label intact on the underside of the base. The original Artemide label is present and legible on the underside of the base. The power cable and European plug are in good condition.
