This is a detailed explanation of a bronze vase by Hiroshi Murata, a Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) artist.
This piece is an extremely intricate lost-wax cast bronze vase, utilizing the techniques of Takaoka copperware, a traditional craft of Toyama Prefecture.
Product Details
Artist: Hiroshi Murata (born 1936 in Takaoka City).
A metalwork artist who studied under Yoshio Murata, a Nitten councilor, and is known for his exquisitely detailed decorative work. He is a well-known Nitten artist with numerous works selected for the exhibition.
Technique: Lost-wax casting.
This technique involves creating a prototype with wax, then surrounding it with clay and firing it to melt the wax, into which molten copper is poured. Because the original mold is destroyed by fire, only one piece can be made from a single mold, giving each piece a near-unique value, and it is well-suited for expressing intricate patterns in three dimensions.
Design:
Flower and Bird Raised Pattern: In the center of the body, seasonal flowers such as peonies and chrysanthemums, along with birds (phoenixes and small birds) resting their wings, are meticulously depicted in relief within a window-like design.
Neck and Shoulder Decoration: Large chrysanthemums are carved around the neck along with arabesque patterns, and geometric thunder patterns adorn the rim.
Signature: The signature "Hiroshi" engraved on the bottom of the vase indicates that it is a work by Hiroshi Murata.
Recommended Usage:
Interior: Its substantial and beautiful form makes it a centerpiece not only in a Japanese-style alcove but also in a modern entrance hall or living room display case. Gift Ideas: Phoenixes and seasonal flowers are considered auspicious, making these items highly appreciated as housewarming gifts, longevity celebration gifts, and commemorative presents.
