全新秋季!! Tana River(2025年12月24日) - 44 g

Three months ago, on the evening of December 24, 2025, at about 5:00 PM local time in Kenya, a powerful fireball streaked across the sky above the Tana River region, traveling eastward along the horizon. Moments later, powerful sonic booms echoed through numerous nearby villages. Reports from witnesses throughout southeastern Kenya, along with early recovery efforts, revealed an extensive strewn field of roughly 70-80 km, suggesting a relatively shallow atmospheric entry angle. Meteorite fragments were collected soon after the fall, many retaining a dark, excellently well-preserved fusion crust with little to no signs of weathering. This particular specimen has a mass of 44 grams and is coated in a fresh fusion crust formed during its intense passage through Earth’s atmosphere. The stone displays strong orientation, featuring a strong rollover lip and distinct regmaglypts. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of material that was still in space only a few months ago. As this is a recent fall, formal classification is still in progress at Cascadia Lab in Portland. Preliminary results suggest it is likely an L6 chondrite with shock stage 5 and weathering grade 0. I am a member of the Meteoritical Society (#7743) and have been collecting meteorites for over 15 years.
