A nice camera with a lot of history, well preserved and in very good condition. Shuter works great in all settings.
The FED camera was produced in the 1930s in Kharkov (USSR), in a special factory called a “labor commune,” which was under the control of the NKVD (the Soviet secret police). There, young people were re-educated through work and technical training.
The model was inspired by German Leica cameras and was one of the first attempts by the USSR to produce its own photographic technology.
The name “FED” comes from Felix Dzerzhinsky, the founder of the Soviet secret police.
