Genpei-gama - Kato Shozan IV - 茶碗 - 石器 - Iro-e 扇面茶碗

Item Description This exquisite chawan (tea bowl) is a work by Kato Shōzan IV (四代目 加藤昌山) of Genpei-gama (原平窯), a historic kiln in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture. The piece is executed in the Ninsei-utsushi (仁清写) style — an homage to the celebrated 17th-century Kyoto master Nonomura Ninsei — featuring a richly painted iro-e (polychrome overglaze enamel) fan-panel floral composition. The warm ivory crackle-glazed ground is divided by gold-outlined diagonal panels, each filled with seasonal florals: blooming peonies in red and white, plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, iris, maple leaves, and geometric shippo diaper patterns, all rendered in iron-red, teal, indigo, and gold. A refined and collectible piece rooted in the centuries-long Mino ceramic tradition. Size Height: 7.8 cm Width: 12.5 cm (diameter) Weight 240 g Condition The bowl is in very good condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs; minor age-related wear may be present on the foot rim consistent with normal use. Artist Profile 加藤昌山 Kato Shozan IV(1960– ) Kato Shōzan IV (加藤昌山, b. 1960) is the fourth-generation head of Genpei-gama (原平窯), a kiln in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture. The kiln traces its origins to the Tenshō era (late 16th century), continuing the Shino and Oribe traditions of the Momoyama period. Shōzan IV began his training under his father, the third-generation Shōzan, in 1980, focusing on the study of Ninsei-style pictorial ceramics. In 1982, he traveled to Kyoto to deepen his research, and in 2000 formally succeeded to the name Kato Shōzan IV. His works are distinguished by their faithful yet creative reinterpretation of classical decorative traditions, particularly the elegant Ninsei-utsushi polychrome enamel style. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Shipping & Important Notice [Shipping] Your item will be carefully packaged and shipped from Japan via Japan Post, DHL, or FedEx with a tracking number.
