A nice large iron vase with geometric decoration. The vase is of ovoid form, supported on a slightly recessed foot and rising to a waisted neck with a flat rim. The broad shoulder is encircled by a band of geometric motifs set between incised lines. The surface displays a copper-toned patina, overlaid with a soft, translucent greyish finish. Two embossed seals along the foot: ‘Nanbu Ironware’ 南部鉄器 (Nanbu Tekki), and ‘Iwachu’ 鋳岩. Complete with an inscribed wooden tomobako 共箱 (storage box). The lid bears a commemorative inscription indicating a corporate presentation: “Congratulations on your appointment as president,” issued by the Sharp Corporation Public Relations Department, dated “an auspicious day in November 1974.” Period: Japan – Shôwa period, dated November 1974 Dimensions: Height 30.5 cm, Diameter 26.5 cm Weight 5.2 kg In excellent condition, with minimal wear.
