Keichousaurus sp. Fossil – Triassic Period – China
A refined fossil of Keichousaurus, a small marine reptile that lived approximately 230 million years ago during the Triassic period. Characterized by its slender, elongated body, paddle-like limbs, and long tail, this species inhabited shallow lagoons and coastal waters and represents one of the earliest stages in the evolutionary transition of reptiles to aquatic life.
The specimen preserves elegant skeletal detail, with the skull, vertebral column, ribs, and limbs clearly visible within the fine-grained grey shale matrix. The animal measures approximately 13.7 × 1.7 cm, offering a delicate yet scientifically meaningful example of Triassic marine fauna. The natural contrast between the fossil and the surrounding stone enhances the visibility of the anatomy while maintaining the authenticity of the original sediment.
Named after China’s Guizhou (formerly Keichow) province—where the first specimens were described in 1957—Keichousaurus provides valuable insight into early marine reptile morphology and adaptation.
An authentic and visually balanced piece, ideal for collectors, educators, or anyone seeking a genuine natural history specimen that combines scientific relevance with understated display appeal.
