Two beautifully carved, wooden, Dogon locks, used to close shutters on mudbrick granarysheds, containing seeds and grains. The smaller lock was well-carved in a style to represent an antelope with large horns. decorated with incisions at the front. The two iron nails, used to nail the lock onto the door are still in place. Dim.; 24 x 21 cm. The larger lock has a very different design; an anthropomorphic design with a head-like square on top decorated with deep grooves. At the end two symbolic feet were carved. The body is decorated with incisions, Here too the two nails for attatchment are still in place. Dim.; 34 x 33 cm. Both locks were collected in the Pays Dogon in the late 1990,s.
