Authentic East African ceremonial necklace acquired in Kenya in the 1990s, now in a Dutch private collection. The piece combines multiple natural and handcrafted materials in a single elaborate composition typical of Kenyan tribal adornment traditions. The upper section features a woven leather and metal bead crosspiece from which a natural conical shell pendant is suspended, shells carrying symbolic meaning related to fertility and protection across East African cultures. Below the pendant hang three strands of hand-strung metal disc beads, finished with two large natural seed or pit beads and a woven metal bead base. The leather carrying strap is hand-cut and shaped. Total length 67 cm. The piece shows honest age-related wear throughout, consistent with decades of storage since acquisition in the 1990s.
