Germany, 20th Century - 玩具 - Model Of A Zeppelin

Model of a Zeppelin Germany, 20th century A Zeppelin is a rigid, cigar-shaped airship , constructed from a lightweight skeleton containing gas bags filled with a light gas. The type is named after the great pioneer of airship travel, Ferdinand von Zeppelin , who developed the airship into a serious means of transport for passengers and mail at the beginning of the 20th century. This beautiful and impressive model of a Zeppelin is constructed from a wooden frame covered with fabric and possesses a strong sculptural presence. The scale and materiality give the object an almost architectural quality, where technique and elegance come together. Historical context – the Hindenburg The era of the Zeppelins came to an abrupt end after the Hindenburg (LZ-129) disaster on May 6, 1937. During landing at Lakehurst, near New York, the hydrogen-filled airship caught fire. Thirty-six people lost their lives, including the famous Zeppelin promoter Ernst Lehmann. Following this tragedy, confidence in airships vanished, and the remaining examples—LZ-127, LZ-130, and the unfinished LZ-131—were decommissioned and scrapped. Today, zeppelins live on primarily as icons of an era in which technology, adventure, and romance went hand in hand. Details Construction: wooden frame, covered with fabric Length: approx. 170 cm Diameter: approx. 40 cm A particularly decorative and historically charged object that makes the grandeur and tragedy of early aviation tangible. Extremely suitable as a statement piece in an interior, display case, or collection centered on science, transport, and design history. Please note that this item is a pick-up only item.
