Item Description: 西本直文 Nishimoto Naofumi(1965- ) This exquisite lidded ceramic box (hakō) is a masterwork of Geishu-yaki (Hiroshima-region) ceramics, created by acclaimed contemporary ceramic artist Nishimoto Naofumi. The piece showcases his celebrated original technique known as Jūnihitoe Yūsai — a multi-layered glaze firing method inspired by the twelve-layered court robes (jūnihitoe) of Heian-era aristocratic women. Titled "Seto · Kōin · Sōshū" (瀬戸・光陰・爽秋 — "Seto, Passage of Time, Refreshing Autumn"), the work evokes the luminous clarity of an autumn day through its richly stratified glaze surfaces that shimmer with depth and layered color. The piece comes with its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), a mark of authenticity and a standard feature of distinguished Japanese craft works. This is a refined collectible for the serious Japanophile, tea-ceremony enthusiast, or collector of contemporary Japanese ceramics. Height: 10 cm Width (mouth diameter): 22.5 cm Depth (mouth diameter): 22.5 cm Base diameter: 20.5 cm Condition The piece shows age-related wear including minor surface abrasions, small edge chips, and light soiling consistent with its vintage; please refer to the photographs for full details. His international exhibition career has brought his work to prestigious venues abroad, and he has received multiple international awards in recognition of his distinctive glaze work.
